Inter Faith Relations - stepping outside the library comfort zone

Continuing the training frenzy over the last few weeks, another event I attended was on building good inter faith relations, organised by NUS.
Though not directly relevant to the world of information, this is something I am involved in my role: through being part of the cross-institution equality group on faith and beliefs, involvement in planning for a quiet space located within the library space and, more generally, by working in a college with a very diverse student mix.
Especially useful for me were the sections on putting together and promoting events and the following wider discussion on measuring impact of events.  Enrichment activity, mostly focused on reader development, is something I’ve been involved in for some time, and whilst I think it is very useful for profile raising for libraries and institutions, measuring the impact of activities has sometimes proved tricky to do.
Continuing my recent training theme of communication skills, the session on facilitating dialogue was fascinating and made me consider more deeply the importance of thinking about what you want to say and how best to say it to avoid miscommunication.
This aspect of my work  is going to become more important as the library quiet space comes into being so I’m looking forward, with a little trepidation, to seeing where it will lead...
