Before starting cpd23, I had already started exploring iGoogle as an online way to improve my current awareness (as mentioned by my colleague Sarah here, I have been pushing it somewhat...). When I arrive at work, bleary-eyed and in need of tea, I can log on to my iGoogle page and look at my Gmail, RSS feeds, Twitter feed and BBC headlines on one page, so having no clicks to keep up with what is going on.
I have found that logging in first thing in the morning is a fairly good way of keeping on top of all the sources I am following but can still find the amount of stuff a bit overwhelming. Reading Organising Chaos's brilliant post on current awareness here has made me realise I need to be a bit more discriminating with what I spend time on - scanning info and not feeling guilty when I don't read in-depth if it isn't currently relevant. I already star the items on Google Reader I want to come back to later, but am going to investigate the functionality of Google Reader more to see what else I can do with it....
I have been using Twitter as a current awareness tool but am still very much a fledging user - I follow a fair few organisations and bodies but need to explore more what I can do with it (as blogged for thing 3, I also need to improve my use of it in creating and maintaining my online brand). So far my first major awareness success with Twitter was seeing a tweet by CILIP about the London Library's free tours, signing up and going along (I loved this library and blogged about it here, if you get the chance, I'd really recommend a visit).
As I'm still feeling my way with Twitter and Google Reader (and also don't use any of the browsers it is available on) I haven't yet looked at Pushnote but will definitely keep an eye out for it.
