Reflective practice is a skill I am attempting to improve to help me in my chartership, and, more generally, in getting the most out of what I do. Taking part in Cpd23, and specifically updating this blog, has been really helpful in improving my reflection on the training and development I've been involved in.
As part of a PTLLS qualification I completed last year, at the end of each session we wrote a learning journal and listed the three key things we felt we had learned in the session. I found this approach really helpful in learning as it encourages you to think about what you've learnt and how you can then apply it.
I've found that, after recording the things I want to reflect on, it works for me to leave a gap of a few days before starting to put together my reflections on it. This gives me time to both make sense of what I've learnt and think about how it can be applied. Time to reflect is definitely something I struggle with, but completing this thing has re-energised me on the value of reflecting.
I like the recall it, evaluate it, apply it model and am going to use this to structure my reflective writing from now on. I am also going to try and improve applying my reflections, and looking back to see how I how got on with applying things. At the moment I think this will be through looking back over what I've blogged about and commenting or updating as I've completed things, but if anyone has a better way of doing this, let me know!
