I've been exploring the world of blogs via Google Reader (mostly group based e.g. CILIP, CoFHE, CoFHE LASEC) for a while, but Thing 2 has given me the push needed to go out and look at some more individual blogs.
Thus far, I've subscribed to the Wikiman's recommended blog list here and am getting to grips with the influx of posts (as a small aside, In the Library with the Lead Pipe is so far taking the best blog title award...).
Aside from these, I've also been commenting and following some of the Cpd23 participants, as the list is getting so massive, I've focused on five blogs (mostly) from people working in similar organisations to me to follow:
23 is a magic number
Behind the bookshelves
Katyroo
Roaming in L-Space
Stroumphette's Musings
..but I may add to this as soon as I devise a good system to keep up to date with the number of blogs I'm following
CoFHE - Colleges of Further and Higher Education
CoFHE LASEC - Colleges of Further and Higher Education London and South East Circle
How are you finding working towards chartership? I ought to look towards revalidating next year but my chartership recollections aren't all that positive! I rememebr the handbook being as clear as mud!
ReplyDeleteSlow going!
ReplyDeleteI've found the Building your Portfolio book published by Facet to be pretty useful (and it also covers revalidation) but every time I look at the body of professional knowledge I feel very confused!
Great minds think alike? I had put your blog on my cpd23 feed over the weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in the UK chartership process, which is vastly different from the US MLS/MLIS degree program for librarians.

They must do Katy!
ReplyDeleteIn the UK chartership is usually done after a library qualification (for me - I have a MA in librarianship) and involves producing a portfolio - much, much more info here: http://www.cilip.org.uk/jobs-careers/qualifications/cilip-qualifications/chartership/Pages/chartershipintro.aspx
Hello Cat, I'm new to FE after years in School Libaries and found your blog whilst doing Thing2 of cpd23. I'm also a new blogger, so seeing your progress has given my motivation a boost :) I'll be following.
ReplyDeleteThanks for following my blog Christine, I hope you enjoy working in FE libraries - I imagine there must be some big differences moving from school libraries
