Branding is something I've considered a lot in regard to the library service I work in, however, thinking more deeply about it has made me realise that it isn't something I've considered in great detail in relation to my own personal brand. Reading through the cpd23 recommended reading for this Thing also brought home to me that, though I may not be Googling myself, it doesn't mean that other people aren't.
So, onto the Googling... having a very common surname and pretty common first name means that I get a lot of unrelated results, even when I narrow the search down with library-related terms. Using the shortened version of my name is no help and instead leads to a lot of pages about cats who live in libraries (who knew there were so many?! There must be a piece of research in that...).
Given that in the first 10 pages of Google results I don't get anything that refers to me (at which point even the most narcissistic/interested person must have given up...) I need to work more on raising my online profile, something which taking part in cpd23 is hopefully a step towards.
I'm also going to look at the visual impact of my online presence and tie my blog and twitter presence together more closely, using the same photo, description and similar themes.
